forgottenbennet: (Lestat attacks)
In response to Anne Rice's most recent QotD (book) post. MY GOD what a lot of fucking brown-nosers Anne has there! I was going to post it in a comment there but I lost my nerve. The movie lovers are there but we are massivly outnumbered!

Although Anne (Rice) may hate the QotD movie (I personally LOVED it) and yes I had read the book, in fact it was my first VC book I ever read (somewhere in the 1993 to 1995 timeline) and I loved it despite the fact it was confusing for me in a few places and my favorite character was Jesse (and sadly she is nowhere else to be seen in any book after QotD). PP. S I really don't care if you read this post or not, even if it upsets her delicate Dickensian sensibilities about the movie that I and more than a few others adore (despite having read the book). I'm writing this out for myself...not for Anne. I don't care if it's "too painful *insert eyeroll here*

Have I lost her? no? Okay then this should do it MOVIE FILM MOVIE FILM!!!! I LOVE THE QUEEN OF THE DAMNED MOVIE.

So when I read QotD for the first time all those years ago. I adore the Jesse Reeves and Lestat characters (and yes Baby Jenks, she never gets enough love from the VC fandom). As you may have guess my favorite part to read was the Jesse parts (and sometimes the Daniel parts whenever Armand wasn't annoying me) I was rooting for her and Lestat all the way (yes you read that right. Since it was my first VC I was rooting for she and lestat to get together. Yes I am a Lestat/Jesse shipper and PROUD of it. So when she boldly set foot on the stage I was giddy with delight but all of that came crashing down when the novel ended and scarcly a mention made to her after Maharet "made" her. I finished the book and decided to read TVL which I bought at the same time as QotD, but QotD seemed more interesting to me at the time, so I saved TVL for second (and I may get a lot of hate thrown at me for saying this BUT I'm not really a fan of IwtV (book) It was boring I'm glad I read QotD first because TVL and QotD were the BEST VC books that Anne ever wrote (the only went downhill for me after TotBT then started picking up speed like a person on rollerskates going downhill) but I read them all anyway...until Merrick. Oh what she did to Louis was awful after that book I threw it down and ignored every book afterwards. to me the VC had truly ended after TotBT and nothing anyone, not even Anne can do or say anything to change my mind about it. But I'm hopping all over the place now, which wasn't my intention. So I saw IwtV shortly after reading QotD (and possibly TVL) and I admit it was my favorite vampire movie for a while...until QotD came out in theaters. Well I won't list all the reasons why I love it (because I would be here for DAYS typing if I did) but I though Stuart Townsend was a much better Lestat than Tom Cruise ever thought about being (Although in IwtV we were only seeing Lestat from Louis' POV and not his own at that point)

Stuart was truly the Lestat from the TVL and QotD novels and I personally feel that anyone who could't see that wasn't being open-minded enough (This includes you Anne!). Anyway getting back to the point Lestat and Jesse finally after all those years I finally got what my heart craved Lestat and Jesse together TOGETHER I loved the new interpretation of the books (TVL and QotD) and I love the way the way they managed to find a way to get Jesse and Lestat together the way my dear teenage heart wanted all those years before! I know it's not canon but so what? I consider the movie to be a Alternate Universe to both the VC book series and the IwtV movie. I mean why not? If people (meaning the QotD-bashers+Anne) could just take that notion to heart maybe they'd find that the movie wasn't as bad as the deem it to be? It's not that bad at all they're just a bunch of jerks with massive sticks stuck up-their asses! I love the alternate history of the movie and I just don't understand when it comes to this movie why it doesn't get the repect it deserves.

Wow I wish I could just pinpoint why they're being so rude (or why I can type and type and type and still not get to the point) Okay to sum it up: The QotD film is getting a bum rep that it doesn't deserve, especially from the author and everyone is being an idiot except for the sane people who just happen to like the film. It doesn't deserve to have such...wickedness and bile spewed at it. It was never going to be exactly like the book, if it had it would beed over 12 hours long and that would make for a dreadfully boring movie, no matter how awesome the books (TVL and QotD) are.

-You’re beautiful to me because you’re human. Your frailty. Your short years. Your heart. All that suddenly seems more precious than anything I’ve ever known.

-“There comes a time for every vampire when the idea of eternity becomes momentarily unbearable. Living in the shadows, feeding in the darkness with only your own company to keep, rots into a solitary, hollow existence. Immortality seems like a good idea, until you realise you’re going to spend it alone. So I went to sleep, hoping that the sounds of the passing eras would fade out, and a sort of death might happen. But as I lay there, the world didn’t sound like the place I had left, but something different………Better.”

Oh yeah and know this. Ever since (around 1994) I opened my first VC and read it (it was QOTD since I could not find IwtV) I've had a soft spot for Lestat/Jesse as a couple though it never happened in the books. Thats in part, the reason I like the movie so much I think(I read QOTD just before I saw IwtV for the first time in a Theater).

As I was reading QotD for the first time and I stumbled across the Jesse story-line, she,(next to Daniel) became my favorite character in the book (other than the blond one himself heh) I found myself hoping as she was becoming more and more obsessed about finding out the history of Lestat. I silently began to root her on on her quest to see Lestat for herself) Even after she had her neck broken by a random vampire. I expected just a little more than that I guess but still thats where my hopes for Lestat/Jesse were born. Read it and weep, haha.

Sorry about the rambling. I love to babble. Keep in mind I've liked this pairing since I was mmm 15 or 16 long before I know of slash or of the possible Lestat/Louis references in the first book, seeing as once again QotD was the first one I ever read, I just thought somehow all through the book they'd meet for some reason, but I was a wee bit disappointed when they didn't (until the concert and beyond) but I loved the whole story for it's richness.
