forgottenbennet: (Danielle - Breathe)
So Disney has acquired Fox. This basically means that Danielle and Henry (from Ever After) are now a Disney Princess/Prince now?? Heee !! They're a much better Cinderella duo than either Disney version (Sorry Cindy) I love how diverse the the Brandy version is but Brandy herself (as Cinderella) grates on my nerves something fierce (when she's not singing that is)

My widely held and secret (only until now) belief is that Anne Rice secretly hates the IWTV movie adaptation and Loves the QotD movie adaptation (or perhaps loves them both)

My reasoning is that Anne was at first so strongly against TC being Lestat in the first place and TC was a very popular actor at the time and so therefore after she seen the movie she got to thinking "This'll make me big bucks even if it does suck!" *So, she says she loves it.

And then years later some period of time before QotD is released we hear from Anne yet again on her site praising the new movie (I remember this clearly despite I can't recall the words of it). It wasn't until it was after it was released that she say that lot of fans didn't like it for one reason or another. It was only then she decided that she would say that she didn't like the movie at all. Now sometime after the release her official site was given a makeover (ewww remember that horrid purple travesty? Now it's horrible brown-sh orange travesty) and the mention that she once liked the film mysteriously vanished, making it seem as if she never like it is the first place, which is not true. I guess Anne or her webmaster never counted on mentions of, on various sites that she once states and I indeedy-do quote

An announcement from Jorge Saralegui, the producer:
Michael Rymer flew to New Orleans and showed Anne Rice the movie. This is her official statement:

"QUEEN OF THE DAMNED is an energetic and innovative rendition of the Vampire Chronicles, featuring fine performances, and a magnificent look. Well directed, elegant and intriguing, the film is surely destined to take its place among notable modern interpretations of vampire mythology."

I don't recall if this was the exact quote that was on her official site but you will find this all over the internet (and couple of places on this journal) if you know where to look.

And all in all these are just theories, not facts, but if I had to put money on it, I'd bet that Anne Rice secretly liked/loved the QotD movie but doesn't want it advertised and it might decrease any or all booksales from her current or future works (and possibly the theorized Tale of the Body Thief movie that might be planned).

ETA: Do I believe that t would have made a better film if the majority of the deleted scenes were left in the movie? Yes. I even think it would've helped the audience to understand everything and everybody and their motivations more had they been left in (especially the movies Lestat/Jesse love story both the extended scene in Lestat's Hollywood mansion with Jesse and extended flight sequence)

Monster or Horror movies I recommend (no bashing my choices or I WILL NOT be pleased)

-Carrie
-Queen of the Damned
-Red Riding Hood
-Scream 1 - 3
-Let Me In
-Let the Right One In
-Van Helsing
-From Hell (because Jack the Ripper was a truly human monster)
-The Brothers Grimm (not really horror but it's very creepy but also a little silly, ditto for Van Helsing)
-The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, (I personally don't count the third one as canon)
-Sleepy Hollow
-Ringu
-Rasen (Spiral - the original sequel It is too underrated. It's brilliant in my opinion)
-Ringu 2
-Ringu: 0 Birthday
-The Ring
-Rings (a short film which takes place between The Ring and the Ring 2)
-The Ring 2
-BeetleJuice (totally wonko creepy but I love it)
-Bram Stoker's Dracula
-The Underworld Trilogy (I haven't seen Awakening yet)

If your tastes to the entirely brainless then I recommend (also neither is it horror nor about monsters, but shapeshifters and giant bloodsucking Fairies!):

The Twilight Series (because calling it a saga is insulting and utterly and completely wrong)

-Twilight
-New Moon
-Eclipse
-Breaking Dawn part 1

-Interview with the Vampire (solely because Tom Cruise stinks as Lestat in this)

(Ah what I'd give for a book series totally and completely about Leah Clearwater. Written by someone who can actually write. (Not Stephenie Meyer!)

If you like to make fun of twilight the I recc this (I Totally Adore It!):

Vampires Suck (the uncut version)

Worthy of Special Mention:

The television series

-Moonlight was canceled much too soon. It was an absolutely awesome show that was taken from us too soon.

-Grimm (the new NBC television show)

-Once Upon A Time (for those fairy tale lovers out there (there's no horror and rarely any monsters) This show is worth the mention here for the Evil Queen/ Mayor Regina and Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin (especially him) alone.

As of this posting that is where my list ends I may add more later.

I know this casting news has been out for ages but I've just FINALLY started to get excited about it!

As you may or may not know that there will be a new adaptation of The Three Musketeers. But what really causes my heart to pitterpat is that one of the Musketeers is my most favorite Mr. Darcy ever!

Yup Matthew Macfadyen is going to play Athos (I may be Porthos girl at heart, but this news made me squee like a banshee!)

Not only that but the lovely Milla Jovovich will be playing Lady DeWinter, Athos' "ex"-wife. Gah! Can the cast get any better? Oh wait it just did!

Orlando Bloom will be playing "Duke of Buckingham"
Logan 'Percy Jackson' Lerman will be playing "D'Artagnan",
Christoph Waltz will undoubtedly be awesome as the Cardinal Richelieu

Mads Mikkelsen and Ray Stevenson both from "King Arthur" will be playing "Rochefort" and "Porthos" respectively!

This movie is going to awesome! Hell it couldn't be any more awesome than if if you beat it with an "awesome" stick!

Yes I've seen the 1993 version (and adore it. I've also read the book though it took me a while) I've also see Man in the Iron Mask (brillant!) and "The Musketeer" (it was good but there were parts that just made me go WTF!?)

Stadust

forgottenbennet: (D/V - DiVine)
I feel that if the promotion for the movie Stardust (one of my favorite romantic movies) had been something like this video that maybe it would've got a lot more attention and done a lot better in the box office (and DVD sales) than it did. I found this and its making me want to watch Stardust (yet again! And I will after I finish the Goonies) This movie doesn't get enough credit, I fear. But those who do love it, love it fiercely.

A few quotes for a taste.

Narrator (Ian McKellan!): A philosopher once asked, "Are we human because we gaze at the stars or do we gaze at the stars because we are human?" Pointless really. Do the stars gaze back? Now that's a question.

[Tristan and Victoria are sipping champagne under the stars]
Victoria: Do you know, Humphrey's going all the way to Ipswich to buy me a ring.
Tristan: Ipswich? Victoria I'm talking about London or Paris or... A ring? Why is he... What kind of a ring?
Victoria: The word is he's planning to propose to me on my birthday.
Tristan: [crestfallen] He's going to... And you're gonna say yes?
Victoria: [laughs] Well I can't exactly say no after he's gone all the way to Ipswich.
Tristan: "All the way to Ipswich"? Victoria, for your hand in marriage, I'd cross oceans or continents.
Victoria: Really?
Tristan: Yes.
[Victoria giggles]
Tristan: Victoria, for your hand in marriage, I would go to the gold fields of San Francisco and bring you back your weight in gold. I'd go to Africa and bring you back a diamond as big as your fist. Or I'd go to the Arctic and I'd slaughter a polar bear and bring you back its head.
[Victoria has been moving closer, about to kiss him, but suddenly she recoils]
Victoria: [disgusted] A polar bear's head? Ugh! You're funny, Tristan.
[they look up into the sky]
Victoria: Oh, Tristan! A shooting star. Beautiful.
Tristan: More beautiful than a fancy ring from Ipswich? Victoria, for your hand in marriage, I'd cross the wall and bring you back that fallen star.
Victoria: You can't cross the wall. Nobody crosses the wall. Now you're just being silly.
Tristan: I'm not being silly. I'd do it. For you, I'd do anything.
Victoria: [thinking] Hmmm. My very own star. It seems we have ourselves an agreement. You have exactly one week or I'm marrying Humphrey.

~*~*~
[Tristan and Yvaine are imprisoned in the pirate ship]
Yvaine: Tell me about Victoria, then.
Tristan: Well, she... she... There's nothing more to tell you.
Yvaine: The little I know about love is that it's unconditional. It's not something you can buy.
Tristan: Hang on! This wasn't about me buying her love. This was a way for me to prove to her how I felt.
Yvaine: Ah... And what's she doing to prove how she feels about you?
Tristan: Well... Look, Yvaine, you'll understand when you meet her, all right? If we don't get murdered by pirates first.
Yvaine: Mmm... Murdered by pirates. Heart torn out and eaten. Meet Victoria. I can't quite decide which sounds more fun...

*~*~*~
[outside the witches' castle]
Septimus: [as he holds a sword to Tristan's throat] Who are you? What business do you have here?
Tristan: [he sees the number 7 mark on Septimus' hand] Septimus... I knew your brother, Primus.
Septimus: Unless you wish to meet him in the afterlife, I suggest you answer my question. What are you doing here?
Tristan: I might ask you the same thing!
[Septimus realises that Tristan is holding a blade to his gut]
Septimus: Ah...
[they both lower their weapons and peer through the window]
Septimus: There are four of them. Do as I say and we may stand a chance.
Tristan: Wait! How do I know you can be trusted?
Septimus: You don't. Why? Do you have a choice?
Tristan: No.
Septimus: Well then, let's go.

*~*~*~
Tristan: I find the fastest way to travel is by candlelight.
[showing the candle]
Yvaine: You've got a Babylon candle.
Tristan: Yeah, I have a bubbling candle.
Yvaine: A *Babylon* candle.
Tristan: That's what I said.
Yvaine: You said "bubbling".

And that's it. Because if I printed anymore of them what would get you to watch the movie? (or read the book that's based on) If you're so inclined

Five Things You Didn't Know About The Goonies (Until Now)

By Alexis Chiu

Any true fan knows that Goonies never say die.

As the '80s cult favorite The Goonies marks its quarter-century milestone, adoration for its misfit gang of treasure-hunting teens – including the not-yet-famous Josh Brolin and Sean Astin – is still alive and well.

This weekend, thousands of fans are due to converge upon the waterfront city of Astoria, Ore., where the 1985 film was set and shot, to celebrate all things Goonies. Among the "Come Join the Adventure" events are a tribute concert (performers include cast member Corey Feldman's band, Truth Movement) and a Truffle Shuffle 5k Run/Walk.

Can't make it to Astoria? Well, here are five fun facts about The Goonies – whose anniversary collector's edition is due on DVD and Blu-ray Nov. 2 – 25 years later.

• The filmmakers considered a sequel
"We went through eight writers," says director Richard Donner. "We tried and tried. But you realize you just can't pick up on their lives." The movie's appeal, he says, was in its likeable young stars and "kid's mind" of the story's creator, Steven Spielberg. "It's as Americana as you can possibly get," says Donner. "What kid doesn't go out and look for the pirate treasure?" So, how about a sequel now that catches up with a middle-aged Mikey or over-the-hill Data? Nah, says Donner: "It's too late."

• Corey Feldman's Goonies connection with Corey Haim
Feldman, who played the wisecracking Mouth, first encountered his close pal, the late Corey Haim, through The Goonies. "It was in the waiting room – we were auditioning for the same role," says Feldman, now 38. After Haim's death in March at 38, Feldman relied on friends like his Goonies costar Sean Astin for support. "We were really close on the set, but people go their separate ways," says Feldman, who later reconnected with Astin. "Sean was the first one to call me when Corey Haim died. He was one of the first people to call me when Michael Jackson died. We have that true friendship."

• Kerri Green remembers a 'sweet' Astin and a 'cute' Brolin
"Sean is one of the sweetest people alive," recalls Green, who played Andy the cheerleader, of the Lord of the Rings star, 39. "He could get really hyper so everyone tried to keep him away from the craft service table, because he loved his candy." And what of the young Josh Brolin, who played Astin's hunky big brother? "Josh was the cutest, most awesome guy – we all loved him," says Green, now 43 and a mother of two." Not that kissing Brolin was a walk in the park: "I was 17 at the time and it was totally embarrassing," she says. "It's the time of your life when you are the most self-conscious anyway. Then you're being filmed and you have to kiss Josh Brolin – just humiliating!"

• Chunk grew up and went to law school
While some Goonies have gone on to high-profile acting careers, Jeff Cohen – who played the lovably chubby Chunk – is now a Beverly Hills entertainment attorney with a roster of celebrity clients. Cohen, 35, has retired his bare-bellied Truffle Shuffle. But he did indulge the crowd at a University of California, Berkeley, football game (the former student body president was also a football "mic man" who would pump fans up): "Since Goonies that was actually the only time I've done the Truffle Shuffle – when 10,000 drunken college kids were yelling at me to do it." P.S.: He's chunky no more. "Steven [Spielberg] said I went from Chunk to Hunk," says a single (and svelte) Cohen, adding with mock-modesty, "and I defer to his superior judgment."

• The Goonies are Broadway-bound
Donner and his wife, X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, are working on a musical adaptation of the film for the Great White Way. "It'll be pure Goonies," he says. While no original cast members are currently slated to participate, he'd love for Joe Pantoliano and Robert Davi – who played the deliciously villainous Fratelli brothers – to get involved because, says Donner, "They sing beautifully."

Minor Iron Man 2 squeeage behind the cut!
Ooooh Spoilers...watch out! )

And now I really should get started on "The Red Pyramid" Seems very interesting (Hey I'm been an Ancient Egyptian ever since second grade or so. Long before Stargate (the movie) heh. I guess that's what drew me to Stargate to begin with.
forgottenbennet: (Mary Bennet -Talulah Riley)
So I bought St. Trinian's on DVD (because I wanting to see another movie with the lovely Talulah Riley in it (isn't that a lovely name?) because I wanted to see her as someone other than Mary Bennet. She blew my mind! Oh sure I'd seen her in that two episodes of Doctor Who but I didn't realize who it was in time enough to appreciate the job she did as Miss Evangelista in "Forest of the Dead and "Silence in the Library". And I had no IDEA she was even in Pirate Radio.

Well anyway I feel that St. Trinian's is one movie/DVD that has been largely overlooked or hated without real reason (it only just came on on DVD here in the USA very recently)

I mean where else can you see Rupert Everett in drag? Or Colin Firth mostly naked! Or a little dog named Mr. Darcy, HUMPING COLIN FIRTH's LEG (who once played Mr. Darcy?!?!) I laughed myself silly! Or the supermodel Lily Cole as dowdy little geek? Did I neglect to mention that Colin Firth and Rupert Everett in drag flirting with each other? There's just too much funny to comment on it here without spoiling it for you but at least rent it if nothing else! You won't be sorry!

Hell, screw Colin's Mr. Darcy or even his Mark Darcy, give me a Geoffrey Thwaites or a Jamie Bennett (Love Actually) any day! Did I forget to mention Russell Brand is in this movie too? Heee! This movie (and soundtrack) rocks!

And YES you've got to hear the song I'm listening to ("Saucy Minx" indeed Rawr!). Whee! Now I'm off to finish the second Percy Jackson book!
forgottenbennet: (D/V - Atlantis balcony)
The Brothers Grimm soundtrack! (I looked over on Amazon as well and it's available to download there too!) You know who it was by? Dario fucking Marianelli! You know...the guys who scored the 2005 version of "Pride & Prejudice", "Atonement" AND "The Soloist".

Yeah, that guy.

So I'm downloading it RFN. You know how hard that was to find? VERY!

(I also LOVE that movie I don't care what anyone else days. I mean how could not love this silly, fun, sweet, and lovely little movie that stars both Heath Ledger and Matt Damon (Not a fan of Matt though his character grew on me though he could be a complete bastard to his brother Jacob aka Jake at times)

Go but it NOW, if you like Dario Marianelli's work or the movie, I promise you you're in for a treat not a trick.
forgottenbennet: (Weasley > Cullen)
Finished reading P&P&Z a while ago I loved it but I found myself wanting more want of Zombies and the slaying of zombies. After that I read "Me & Mr. Darcy" (Loved it despite the bad reviews) I feel this is something any (female) fan of Mr. Darcy should read if their searching for their own.

Also trying to read Twilight (again) but the writing is no bad that I find myself setting the book aside every few sentence. Definitely not enough to keep my attention in the long run, but I am trying at least. In the meantime as I'm trying to read the aforementioned horrible book, I find myself also trying to finish other books that I've started (or want to re-read) such as Angels & Demons, Darcy's Story, The Veiled Threat (An in between transformers movies novel or rather a prequel to the second), Patterns of the Force (the 3rd novel in the Coruscant Nights trilogy) and all the while I'm working my way through the Naboo Chronicles series on FFN. My God there's some purple prose there and WAY too much use of the word "angel" *gags*. Despite that though it's s decent story line for an AU (What if Anakin wasn't accepted for training and the Naboo has taken him in?) so I'd trudging my way through that.

Meanwhile I'm going to see Star trek Friday or Saturday, Friday if I can talk my Mother into it (I hate going to the movies by myself) But if not I'm thinking of taking in a show Friday Night with or without her. (Yes I want to see it that badly) Not to mention a week after that the A&D movie will be released and It seems movie season is here once again. Sure I did/do want to see the Wolverine Origin film (Yum! Gambit!) but I think I'll wait for the DVD to come out before I see that.

But for now. I was randomly surfing around, curious to see if there will be a new iPod Nano this year (despite the fact I've decided not to buy one if they do) I came across someone's clever mock up of a tablet iPod (which I call iTab or iPad) in which I've decided that if Apple ever makes one of these. I will buy that baby without hesitation (once I had the money for it)

Man, I can't stop drooling over it!
forgottenbennet: (Sanguini may eat you)
So when I went out today (lingering cough be damned) to buy a copy of Caprica and a few other things (*sigh* cough drops) the last thing I expected to see, side by side with the original, were copies of Gremlins 2: The New Batch , Not the original had been there for a while so I all but leaped at the chance to buy them both together.

Just a little while ago, however, I got to looking at at few of the co-stars and lo and behold. It's the guy who plays Woolsey on SG-1 and SGA! Robert Picardo himself...with HAIR! My goodness he's a bit of a looker isn't he? What also sent me into fannish glee was the unexpected Saruman/Count Dooku/Dracula flashbacks when I saw Christopher Lee's glorious eyebrows. Wow, what a name to be saddled with eh, Dr. Catheter? *cackles* Also...John Glover!

The main reason I'm bringing this up is a rather Darth Maul-ish mogwai, known as Mohawk (G2's own version of Stripe). But I don't like that name, so I personally call him Maully

Here's a cap if Maully being evil. Look at those teeth and eyes! He was Darth Maul before Darth Maul was Darth Maul!

Gremlins 2

And so as I'm watching G2, I'm making screencaps. Looks like there will be Gremlin icon-making tomorrow!
