forgottenbennet: (Jesse - vampire)
An article on Jessica Miriam Reeves perhaps my favorite female vampire from the VC (Lestat being the male, you know before he went loco-coco in MtD and went downhill faster than someone wearing rollerskates!) I would've loved if Jesse and/or Gabrielle had gotten their own books (beyond TVL and QotD)

Jesse Reeves from www.vampirebibliographica.com

A preview:

“I’m sorry, Maharet,” she whispered again softly. She had to go. Her journey was nearly ended.” - Anne Rice, The Queen of the Damned

Jesse Miriam Reeves was born to greatness, though she did not realise it for a large portion of her life. She was also born under a bad sign, and the beginnings of her life do not hint at the momentous path her life would follow later. Her mother was killed in an accident which should have taken her life as well, but by a miracle she was discovered by the wreckage and taken away, having been aborted from the womb of her seven months pregnant mother. Little did she know it at the time, but her arrival at the hospital was met two weeks later with that of an immensely powerful creature, one of the most powerful in a world that contained far more power than she could ever imagine. Maharet gave the child a name and sent her to live with distant relatives, Matthew and Maria Godwin.

-You’re beautiful to me because you’re human. Your frailty. Your short years. Your heart. All that suddenly seems more precious than anything I’ve ever known.

-“There comes a time for every vampire when the idea of eternity becomes momentarily unbearable. Living in the shadows, feeding in the darkness with only your own company to keep, rots into a solitary, hollow existence. Immortality seems like a good idea, until you realise you’re going to spend it alone. So I went to sleep, hoping that the sounds of the passing eras would fade out, and a sort of death might happen. But as I lay there, the world didn’t sound like the place I had left, but something different………Better.”

My widely held and secret (only until now) belief is that Anne Rice secretly hates the IWTV movie adaptation and Loves the QotD movie adaptation (or perhaps loves them both)

My reasoning is that Anne was at first so strongly against TC being Lestat in the first place and TC was a very popular actor at the time and so therefore after she seen the movie she got to thinking "This'll make me big bucks even if it does suck!" *So, she says she loves it.

And then years later some period of time before QotD is released we hear from Anne yet again on her site praising the new movie (I remember this clearly despite I can't recall the words of it). It wasn't until it was after it was released that she say that lot of fans didn't like it for one reason or another. It was only then she decided that she would say that she didn't like the movie at all. Now sometime after the release her official site was given a makeover (ewww remember that horrid purple travesty? Now it's horrible brown-sh orange travesty) and the mention that she once liked the film mysteriously vanished, making it seem as if she never like it is the first place, which is not true. I guess Anne or her webmaster never counted on mentions of, on various sites that she once states and I indeedy-do quote

An announcement from Jorge Saralegui, the producer:
Michael Rymer flew to New Orleans and showed Anne Rice the movie. This is her official statement:

"QUEEN OF THE DAMNED is an energetic and innovative rendition of the Vampire Chronicles, featuring fine performances, and a magnificent look. Well directed, elegant and intriguing, the film is surely destined to take its place among notable modern interpretations of vampire mythology."

I don't recall if this was the exact quote that was on her official site but you will find this all over the internet (and couple of places on this journal) if you know where to look.

And all in all these are just theories, not facts, but if I had to put money on it, I'd bet that Anne Rice secretly liked/loved the QotD movie but doesn't want it advertised and it might decrease any or all booksales from her current or future works (and possibly the theorized Tale of the Body Thief movie that might be planned).

ETA: Do I believe that t would have made a better film if the majority of the deleted scenes were left in the movie? Yes. I even think it would've helped the audience to understand everything and everybody and their motivations more had they been left in (especially the movies Lestat/Jesse love story both the extended scene in Lestat's Hollywood mansion with Jesse and extended flight sequence)

Hmmm I thought I had posted in it's entirety th FAQ for the Queen of the damned movie (which was on the official site, right up until the took down the official site down at long last not too long ago (I don't have an exact date)

But I did have it saved in a file on my computer. It may take me a few entire but I will post the FAQ here. (in as many posts as it takes)

It's going to be hidden behind many LJ cuts to save space, None of it was written by me All I'm doing is copying and pasting.

*!*!*!*!

INTRODUCTION

I'm Jorge Saralegui, the producer of QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. I've been involved with the project since early 1998 — shortly after Warner Bros. hired Michael Rymer to direct, which is before we even hired a writer to adapt Anne Rice's work. Since then I've been involved with all of the decisions that have been made in the making of this motion picture, and was on the set every day (and night!) of our Melbourne shoot. As a result, I hope to be able to answer most of your questions regarding QUEEN OF THE DAMNED: its genesis, the script's development, its casting, the shoot, the music, the pageantry, the Aussie-rules football team we sponsored, not to mention the upcoming mini-series. Fiction replaced fact midway through that last sentence, so I better stop here. Cheers!

On occasion I like to check out the official QotD movie site to sort of relive the thrill of anticipation of the QotD movie. But when I looked it up a few days ago. It was gone. the only thing there really was a place where you could buy the DVD (for $5!). Alas for BluRay fans out there there's still no version in that format.

I've still a bit stunned. I've saved the pics from there (most if not all) and the F.A.Q. but it still guts me a little that it's now officially gone.

I love the screensaver that was available on the site. I still have it. In the past if I had to get a new computer one of the very first thing I did was make sure that that screensaver was on it. So now I'm going to relish it all that I can now and hope I won't need a computer for at least a few more years.

Note to self. Buy a couple of USB's I want to save all the QotD and/or Stuart pics as I can It would be a PAIN to find them all again.

Take and post pics of Alice, Victoria, Eomer, Eowyn, Rogue, Legolas (and possibly Gus and Duchess) on [livejournal.com profile] dollshelf and well see what develops (pun not intended). Ahh, I'd love a male vampire doll (that's not Edward fraking Cullen!) I'd especially love a Queen of the Damned (2002) Lestat doll (either in his concert clothes or in that kilt yum yum!) damn you Warner Brother for NOT liscencing some QotD dolls *also shakes fist at Anne Rice and a few QotD-haters just because I can* (for my own reasons heh)

I don't think I've ever posted this here before I'm almost sure I have, but I can't find it so here it is!

Stuart Townsend rocks Lestat in Michael Rymer's Queen of the Damned
By Patrick Lee and Cindy White

In Queen of the Damned, director Michael Rymer's upcoming movie based on two of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles novels, Irish-born actor Stuart Townsend takes a bite out of a role originated by Tom Cruise in the first Rice adaptation, 1994's Interview with the Vampire. Townsend plays Rice's most famous creation: Lestat de Lioncourt, an 18th-century French nobleman inducted against his will into the brotherhood of vampires.

Townsend appears opposite the late Aaliyah, the 22-year-old pop star and actress who died tragically in a plane crash last summer, and Marguerite Moreau, who will soon star in the SCI FI Channel's upcoming miniseries Firestarter: Rekindled.

Australian-born director Rymer faced the challenge of not only following up the previous movie, but also compressing the events in Rice's The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned into a single film. Townsend, Rymer and producer Jorge Saralegui took a moment recently to speak with Science Fiction Weekly about Queen of the Damned, which opens Feb. 22.
