To start off with this entry is just to let off steam (which may or may not be shooting out of my ears right about now) on my behalf.

Unlike some self-professed "Experts" who think their opinion is "God's Word" (Don't worry folks it's no one on my friends list. Nor am I talking about a snotty Austen fan site) I actually appreciate most Vampire movies/books I see/read (Twilight and it's progeny being the exception of course. Can't stand the books and to a certain extent to movies are actually amusing but not in the ways the Author/screenplay writers intended them to be "Here's your garden burger, Stephanie!" hah!).

I'm talking about a certain person on IMDb on a vampire movie message board who refuses to believe that, yes, some people can actually like a different canon than the first movie (Am I dropping enough clues? lol) I personally prefer to think of it as a bit of an AU when compared to the first. (As is some of the same things may have happened but not all) I say to this person "Shut Up! and let people like what they like without turning you nose down at us (repeatedly, loudly, and often all over the 'net! Many time used the same argument copied and pasted with the occasional revision) It's been almost 8 YEARS since the movie was released! Chill the fuck out already!

*ahem* Yes, well that felt good to say/type and in case you're wondering I'm typing this while I wait for SGU to come on (Pathetic. yes I know but I'm got to keep up with 'canon' just in case for whatever reason I should feel like writing SG-1 fic again (or continue as the case may be)

So! A list of my Favorite vampire movies (in not particular order unless otherwise noted)

Queen of the Damned
Let the Right One In
Blade
Van Helsing
Underworld (I'm counting all the movies an one)
Bram Stoker's Dracula
LXG (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which is not technically a vampire movie but it DOES have a vampire in it so I'm counting it)
Interview with the Vampire (I like it well enough, despite Tom Cruise chronic-overacting((which I don't believe even 'Lestat' himself, in the books, was ever THAT bad)) but to me it belongs on the bottom of my list)

I'm judging this on my DVD collection and I can't remember ever Vampire movie I've ever seen but these are, in my opinion, top notch

And as an added bonus I recently, for the first time read this fabulous little short story by Neil Gaiman where Snow White isn't as innocent as she seems to be.

And as for the entry title?

I just think PPZ is awesome and Twilight is not.

Snow, Glass, Apples

Ugh! No!

Expanded from my facebook:

I finally had a great topic for hand-written journal entry, then I lost all train of thought. Gah! Hint: Girl Geeks and how I am and am not one.(Also I feel that you don't have to be tech-minded in any major form to be a geek, there are several types of geek) Instead I will make a list of books which bring out my inner geek (this includes books I've not yet finished reading) In no particular order, of course:

-The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane (When I was younger my inner baby-geek had a thirst for stories of the Salem Witch trials)

-The Princess Bride (Book and Movie, Fairy Tale Geek is I. I have three version of DVD. All have varying special features and no two are exactly alike, hence the three copies)

-Cinderella stories/movies (Ever After, Disney, Ella Enchanted, etc.)

-I read 'The Scarlet Letter' and 'The Three Musketeers' for fun...in High School. (okay I admit T3M took me a few years but I did get it read.)

-I am a total geek for nearly anything Star Wars (with a few pointed exceptions)

-Stardust (book and movie, Again my Fairy Tale Geek Shines though yet again....damnit I kinda made a pun there didn't I?)

Fairy Tale-ish movies (Enchanted, The Brother Grimm, The Princess Bride, Stardust, A Knight's Tale, Penelope)

- I'm a minor Jane Austen geek, I've yet to read anything past 'Pride & Prejudice', and 'Pride & Prejudice & Zombies'. Although I do have a few movie adation of her work
(Clueless, Emma (Paltrow version which I just honestly bought for Ewan McGregor), Pride & Prejudice (2005), Sense & Sensibility (1995, yum Col. Brandon), Bridget Jones' Diary, and Becoming Jane a movie based on the book (not entirely truthful but I love it just the same.)

-Vampires. I've been a vampire geek since the early 90's (Gary Oldman's Dracula. Yum!). I am VERY specific to which vampires I read about though. You won't catch me reading and Anne Rice novel past "Queen of the Damned" (the only exception being Pandora. Anne Rice just lost her marbles where Lestat was concerned past that/). I loath the Twilight books, adore Betsy the Vampire Queen (the more recent book are notoriously hard to find these days though), intrigued by True Blood (I've only seen season 1 so far) drool over Stuart Townsend's Lestat and scoff at Tom Cruise's. And not to mention Eli (from Let the Right One In) could kick Claudia's ass.Moonlight has also become a much loved favorite as well.

-In fact I love most movies (or tv series people scoff at, hate or roll their eyes at (Marie Antoinette, Queen of the Damned, Penelope,Becoming Jane, The Brothers Grimm, Tank Girl Pride & Prejudice (2005), Hancock, King Arthur, Night Stalker (2005))

-Disney (nuff's said really but my favorites are probably not everyone else's favorites. WALL-E, Lilo & Stitch, Cinderella, Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time,Mulan, The Lion King, The Lion King ½, The Emperor's New Groove, National Treasure, National Treasure 2: The Book of Secrets, Pocahontas, both version of The Parent Trap (non of the originals sequels) The Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Enchanted,as you can see I have rather eclectic tastes and not too many of them Princess movies.)

To tell the truth I could honestly go on and on and on and ON all night about the many different categories (SciFi, historical, fantasy, etc. etc.) that I geekify about. And its so very tempting to dive into even move but if I did so I could be here off and on for days telling you what and why but chances are most of you know what they are so I'll leave it at that, for now at least. Maybe at some point in the future I'll elaborate more but for now my hands are tire from all the painting and typing , lol.
forgottenbennet: (Ginny - Quidditch)
A small list of movies that, in my opinion, everyone of the "female and human" species should see.

-Marie Antoinette (2006)(Also I VERY highly recommend the soundtrack)
-Pride & Prejudice (Very highly recommend the 2005 version)
-Coraline (Nuff' said!)
-Enchanted (May not be for everyone but it's got Patrick Dempsy. Yum! I don't even watch Grey's Anatomy, and Amy Adams? well she's just...enchanting. There's truly no other word for how adorable Giselle is)
-Ever After (I'm a sucker for Cinderella stories and having my favorite actress
-Penelope (lovely little Christina Ricci movie that didn't get the attention it deserves)
-"Stardust" and "The Princess Bride" (I just cannot stress enough how awesome these two movies are in their own ways!)

Wow two movies based on Neil Gaiman's work! That's just how awesome he is!

There's a couple more I could've added but there's more to personal tastes and I'm not sure everyone would like "Tank Girl". I'm biased towards "A Knight's Tale" (extended) I loved it I don't care what anyone else says about it!

And....I love making lists don't I?
