Is this toy really necessary? What are they trying to do teach kids how to text right out of the cradle? I know it just looks like a toy blackberry the thought of kids learning THAT soon to learn how to use one gives me the willies!

What happened to cool learning toys like the Speak and Spell and the VTek Computron (It was meant for younger kids but it helped me with my spelling just as much as my speak and spell. I credit both for great spelling sense (most of the time. the rest of the time it's an unfamiliar word, typo or something spell check didn't pick up) I picked up my love of reading , in oh...second grade (about the same time I fell in love with Ancient Egypt, via pictures of treasure from King Tut's tomb)

My parents were always buying me learning toys and suck. I had terrible eye/hand coordination and so along came a mini Ms. Pac-man game and then later Concentration (fit in all the pieces before the timer buzzes and throws up all your pieces!) (And over HALF the time I caught Mom and/or Dad taking over my Ms. Pac-Man! Gah! Parents!)

Ah, I miss the good old days sometimes. I miss my computron so much *heh*

My spelling, grammar, and punctuation capabilities? Books. I read The Last of the Mohicans when I was five. In elementary school, we were allowed to check out only three books at a time, so I'd get three books each day.

Books, books, books, books, books... BOOOOKS! Yeah, maybe I'll never be the "cool aunt" since I never get my niece and nephews anything but clothes and books, but I can't deny who I am :)
