Anne Rice fic rant
Jul. 4th, 2011 11:54 pmI got wistful last night for the days the reading Vampire Chronicles fanfiction wasn't a chore. Meaning a chore to find any VampChron fic. Since you know Anne started chasing after the Fic Writers.

Anne has posted the following message regarding fan fiction: "I do not allow fan fiction. The characters are copyrighted. It upsets me terribly to even think about fan fiction with my characters. I advise my readers to write your own original stories with your own characters. It is absolutely essential that you respect my wishes."
Guess what Anne you can't legally chase after VampChron fic writers with you pet lawyers (and she had been known to do this)! Not unless they try to make a profit off your work, then feel free to chase them you dozie old crone. You're nuts!
The only reason people hide their fic these days is that they don't want to be sued by Her Royal Battiness!
Yes there are precious few places these days that do have VC fanfic. But I'm not ever going to say where. You know what I'd like? Fanfiction of the VC movies but Noooooooo it's never going to be possible and it's all Anne's fault! There was a place, in the movie section, not too long ago on FF.N for QotD movie fanfic (even though quite a few people snuck in some books fanfiction in there too).
Guess what Anne? You lose. Whether you like it or not people STILL write VC fanfiction. It's very hidden away from your prying eyes. Hell I've had a couple of fics back on FF.N in the day in the VampChron section of FF.N (way before Anne sicced her lawyers on them and got them to remove it) and then one day they were gone. POOF
You may not "allow" fic but you cannot ban them as much as you'd like. You may have attempted to sue the fic writers but tell me did it ever really work out for you? I've not heard of one case that I know of where you were successful. Sure most people may have willingly pulled down their fic site but what makes you think that there are none out there at all? Wrong-o they gone private. If a fan of the VampChron is very very lucky and in the right place at the right time they may find links to an archive or two of much adored fic (because let's face it some of the best fics out there these days are VC fic (although with very few writers, but they still exist)
And you know what's ironic (if I'm using the word correctly)
She's writing fanfiction based off of Jesus' life!!! Or rather, she was as she now working on the "Songs of the Seraphim" series (now two books) which never be as popular as the VC no matter how hard she wishes it was.
Forgive me of this long and disjointed ramble. I had to let it out. As I was READING some very funny VC fics last night (ahem I'm not saying WHERE) and I felt that now that I have my head in the subject, that I may as well write about it before said head exploded, heh.
Anyway it's a lot better than thinking of the everlasting drama that revolves around my father (and continues to do so I'm so stressed out most days I cry myself to sleep. It's rare that I get days like this where I can just relax and enjoy a baseball game and fireworks.
So I vented about something that needed to be vented about and NOT related to my father. I'll let you go for now and maybe someday, of this whole thing with my dad ever settles down I'll tell you all about it, but now I just can't other than I fear my Dad may never exactly be who he was before the accident again *sighs*
